Source: German beggar caught partying
What is going on here?
A German beggar with an excessively swollen leg was seen enjoying drinks and the nightlife in Pattaya on Wednesday night.
What is the issue here?
This beggar is obviously a fake when eye witness say thing like he showed off more than Bt40,000 (S$1,570) or the German organization had approaced to help him only to be turned down by him.
This kind of act will only let people be more warying of other beggar where those could be genuine needing of help and compassion from others to tide through tough times. Socially, this is a issue because we are having more noncontributing people leeching off the kindness of others to living an comfortable life.

What is going on here?
What is the impact here?
News of the death spread throughout Singapore.Parents of death pupils deeply sadden. The death of the pupils from the Tanjong Katong Primary School is so striking that even the Sea Game Opening observed a minute of silence.
What is the issue here?
Natural disaster isn't something mankind can control hence the name suggest, however the suspicious parts comes in when a group of naked western tourist were caught in the web of law and blamed for the causes of earthquake is the questionable part here in the incident. I cannot comment about the supernatural reasoning as to why it happen, but i can question about why the blame is put onto these unexpected tourist. Is it a form of distraction from the public so that the public wound not blame the incapability to forecast the likelihood of earthquake? Or is the government trying to find a scapegoat to shift the heat of the incident onto?
My opinion: It is saddening to see the death of people and the tragic effect on their loved ones, however, death is inevitable for everyone. It is just sad to see that they have to leave us so soon.

Source: Police Arrest A Homeless Man For Charging His Mobile Phone At A Public Park
What is going on here?
In America, January this year in the city of Sarasota-Florida, a homeless man was arrested by the police because he was charging his mobile phone at a public picnic shelter called the Gillespie Park in the city centre. The man had to spend one night in jail simply because he used a public property.
What is the issue here?
The problem is that the police office arrested the homeless guy without a solid legal justification.
What is the impact here?
The impact is that this act of the police officer is deemed as abuse of power. This will only stir up anger from the public and lost of trust in the exact people who are suppose to protect them.
My opinion:
For whatever reason why the police officer decided to arrest the guy with any solid reason is beyond me, perhaps the officer has something against the poor and homeless people.Perhaps it just so happen that this poor man did something that the officer can use against him. At least, i am thankful that i have yet to heard any case of police abusing their power in my country.

Boy with inconvenient truth or inconvienient hatred
Source: Amos Yee on Lee Kuan Yee is Death
What is going on here?
If you are Singaporean or living in Singapore, you would have already realized that a few months back, there is a period of news about a boy on Youtube talking about his political and religious view in Singapore. It has gotten to the point of being controversial,he finally gotten into trouble with the law.
My opinion:
Throughout his video and his other videos, his stand is pretty clear. He is standing against the current government. His speech is highly dramatized and filled with deep sense of hatred. Honestly, his mannerism is irritating me like ants crawling over my skins, however to stay objective, we have look at his claims untainted without biasness from personal emotion. His claims does have evidence support, such as having chart from Google search. However, i found his claims to be skewed toward making verbal assault toward Mr Lee rather than actually trying to expose the truth of the topic of discussion itself, such the part about he saying Mr Lee having "montage" of his success in the photo. That claim is a disguised personal attack in the name of exposing to truth. What is wrong is photographing a successful business deal or a successful foreign relation contact ,that is like saying selfie is wrong. One of his claims is about how the government trying to instill love of the nation into the minds of people using like television program. Fundamentally, i don't find that that is a wrong act to do. Moreover, brainwashing using television is so a dame a doze nowadays that we are developing a resistance to it,such as advertisement for a product.
Other claims of his such as Mr lee was being like a dictator, silencing anyone who oppose him. Those are factual claims ,but his speech once again is more of using these fact as a convenient platform to voice his hatred on the government itself. His claims is made even more biased by simply the fact that he never really acknowledge the success of Singapore due to Mr lee and the ruling party has achieved. The method may not be the most ideal approach however the result cannot be denied or downplayed.
In conclusion, many of Amos's claims are factual and worth attention, however his mannerism and his obvious skewed hatred towards the government spoils the whole idea of trying to expose the inconvienent truth to the singaporean.
Btw, i found Amos yee to be the personanification of the therealsingapore website.
*Disclaimer* I do not watch much of his video nor am i capable of fully understanding of what is the truth of any of the claim he is saying. This written opinion is much like any other opinion, it isn't an fully evidence supported opinion. It is another biased opinion.

Work for people or work for money
Source: Planned Obsolescence
What is going on here?
It is a documentary video posted at youtube about how company deliberately limit the lifespan of a product,so that it will timely fail and make consumer to go and buy a new product of theirs.
My opinion:
Planned obsolescence is conceived solely for one thing, making sale/revenue, so that the industry and the company can continuously to grow. It is understandable from company point of view is that the only way they can survive is sale and this concept does ensure their sale.It does seem to be a justifiable act thinking from creation of job and growth of industry point of view.
However, from the receiving end of this concept is a deeply ethically wrong act. From consumer point of view, we buy the product because we trust and we like the product, and naturally we expect the company to do their best in delivering the best product they can ever produce.
This is an legalized fraud.
From the video, it is evidential that the consequence of such concept are cascading down to more dreadful problem. Firstly, the use and discard attitude is being cultivated into people mind instead of trying to attempt any of reuse, reduce and recycle. This leads to growing wastage being dumped somewhere in the world where the people has less empowerment to make the voice of resistance. The dump would inevitably create environment problem such as pollution of river, water, soil, spread of pest and diseases, reduced food source, reduced biodiversity.
It is an irony that the reduced sale from "ever lasting" product is the cause of lack of growth of industry yet the very act of deliberately making inferior product is not a lack of growth itself.
A solution is required for such tragic dilemma between job and moral. Personally, i support one of the idea presented in the idea, cradle to cradle, by shifting the production model to a biodegradable, environment friendly product, they can naturally decompose itself and integrate itself with the cycle of nature. In addition, by being biodegradable it would naturally means it has a tangible lifespan to sustain demand for the product. The ideology of business is questionable to my inexperienced mind, it seems as though, from the video, the whole business is working for the sake of keeping their job and for earning money.
A change is needed, but who is daring enough to take the step?

Wealth in hand or in heart
Date:Friday 24th April 2015,written by Toby Morris
Source: http://thewireless.co.nz/articles/the-pencilsword-inequality-tower
What is going on here?
This comic strap is created by toby morris about inequality between the poor and the rich.
My opinion:
The inequality between the poor and the rich is present and known since decades ago. Many effort has been done to lessen such gap such as minimum wages, donation or free service done by individual or company, despite all the effort the gap is still present. It is an irony that the media in our news really doesn't care much these social issue at all. Almost as if the news we are seeing is all about blood, drama, problem, that is only mean to entertainment than arousing real concern or solution.
Why we should care about economic and social disparity?
The cliche answer and the most truest answer is that we are in this together. Nobody is living by themselves, nobody can survive by themselves. The bread that we eat, the eletricity we use , the water we drink, the road we walk on, they have been done by someone, someone we dont know personally. These laborious job are often done those in the lower half of the economic ladder, yet we think as though we own,it is only right that we have these privilege. It isn't. We aint living alone despite how our mind like to convince us in that way. How can we live comfortably when everyone else isnt? It will only be a matter of time that the effect will spread to those higher up in the chain. However, the real solution to this issue isnt going to be clear or easy. Both those with capability and those in need help need to reach out to each other.
Anti-piracy bane or boon

What is going on here?
When we think of Cartoon, we think of animation made in America, when we think of Anime we think of animation made in Japan. In year 2014, Japan decided to launch a project,Manga-Anime Guardians project, , to defeat piracy in and outside Japan, aiming at multiple platform, from torrent and file sharing website to online streaming website, to manga online reading website.
My opinion:
I can definitely see the lose of revenue to industry due to piracy, and this is an issue to the industry as now they have to seek other way to sustain their business. Looking at this from the other way, as a consumer we are not supporting our favorite franchise by not paying for it. In the long run, we may become less appreciative for the things we have by continuing these kind of act. The act of this anti-piracy has stirred up quite a spirited debate and panic in numerous anime community because the consumer can no longer have easy access to their favorite franchise. This is an issue because this copyright fiasco is ultimately about who is going to benefit more.... the consumer or the industry. The illegal channels could be one of the main reason as to why anime culture has been so popular outside Japan that would otherwise become another japan-only thing because of Japan attitude of not want to venture outside.
While this topic may not totally fit into the requirement of the assignment, but i felt that this impact the anime fan community in more ways than it seems to be,and it continue to be a topic me and my friend talk occasionally about
Personally, i have benefited from torrent and online file hosting website more than any legal channels, simply because in Singapore, there are very little legal channels to access such media. Comic connection is one of them, but recently they have been closing down around the place i lived, Anime,as in video, is completely non-existence in any local video distribution shop, and lastly figurines or any of those sort are just as rare as the anime itself, moreover they doesn't serve a purpose if the anime they represent is not known to the consumer. However, it is due to those illegal channels i have become an otaku and buy legal anime figurines and manga whenever i found those that i loved.
